Aunt Laurie--DE--JFK
Got up at 7AM and got ready for breakfast. (We got to do some laundry so for Europe all of our clothing was clean!) We went to Fitzgeralds and had a great, delicious breakfast. Then we went to the famous Wawa. Wawa is a first class truck stop with lots of freshly made breakfast/lunch/dinner options and they also have gas--its illegal to pump your own gas in NJ so they are only full service pumps! Aunt Laurie and Alex got coffee and then it was off to the Cape May/Lewis Ferry. This ferry takes us from NJ to DE! It was a little windy but we could sit outside or inside (Aunt Laurie gets motion sickness so we had to keep going inside to outside-but it wasn't that bad outside on certain sides of the boat). The weather was lovely- 63 and sunny! The boat even had an arcade, gift shop, food -we got fries and a banana to keep hunger away).
We went back to Wawa getting off the ferry for lunch-Alex's request. He got his favorite sandwich, Danielle got a chicken &rice bowl and a warm chocolate chip cookie, and Aunt Laurie got some wraps, apples, and her favorite pastry.
DE: didn't see much of it beside the ferry landing, but it was a resort town, water front, a nicer version of Myrtle beach.
After we had lunch, Aunt Laurie drove us to see Lucy the famous elephant (oldest tourist attraction in Atlantic City). Then she took us to see the other small islands which are all resort islands-one with a casino, one for families, and one more residential. Then she took us back home to repack, shower, and head out to JFK.
Southern NJ: lots of farm based-produce, suburban, not as dirty as Northern NJ, water front is very close.
The drive was simple to JFK-only about 2.5 hours. We boarded on time (10:30PM-the plane had some cool light (apparently causes less jetlag). We had our own tvs and we watched movies. I fell asleep before my movie even finished. We flew Norwegian and they have a cheap flight with no frills---that means no meals, no drink (they dont even give water and they look nastily at you if you ask for some). Luckily we had brought on bagel sandwiches so we were good to go! The flight was 6 hrs and 20 min, rather calm, but very uncomfortable (staying still and cramped) in the upright seats. Alex slept for maybe 2 hours and I fell asleep for maybe 4.
